East London police pitbull attack filmed
Five policemen have been taken to hospital after being set upon by a pitbull terrier as they attempted to arrest a suspect in Newham, east London.
Four of the officers were seriously hurt. The attack was filmed on a phone by a passer-by. The animal was shot dead after a dog unit and firearms specialist were called. The suspect, in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and kidnapping and has now also been charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
It has emerged that an allegation was made to police last April that a man had been bitten by a dog at the same address. Commander Stephen Watson said: “This allegation was not picked up in the intelligence assessment prior to [the] operation, and this now forms part of my review.”
