This Scarley Labrador puppy could not come with a higher recommendation from us.

Fleas can infest your pet all year round

Summer is the time of year when fleas are at their most numerouis and, as they are one of the most common parasites caught by pet cats and dogs, it’s important you are in control of any possible problems.

Indeed, it’s thought that every cat and dog will suffer an infestation of fleas at some point in their lives.

Fleas are not just an inconvenience. Their saliva is considered one of the most allergenic substances on earth, and is the cause of a nasty skin disease in pets called Flea Allergic Dermatitis (FAD). Also, when they bite, fleas ingest blood. If the infestation is severe enough, it can cause anaemia or even kill a small puppy or kitten.

That’s not to mention the embarrassment of having your home infested with fleas, and the discomfort if you’re bitten as well.

For every effective flea treatment, there are at least half a dozen old wives’ tales about fleas. The purpose of http://www.fleafree.co.uk/ is to explain which really are the most effective ways to get rid of them.

Adult leas feed and reproduce on animalsd. When their eggs are laid they fall off into the environment where they hatch in warm, humid conditions - they love central heating and are so resilient they can remain protected in the cocoon stage for up to 30 weeks (that’s more than seven months!).

THis is why Cats, Dogs & Peace of MInd recommends preventative treatment all year around. F;eabits cause itching, but some animals are hypersensitive and can debvelop sore skin very quickly, even after a single bite. If you can’t see an actual flea in your pet’s coat, then black specks of flea pooh are a sure sign of infestation.

THere are some products sold as flea treatments that just don’t contain effective ingredients. To find out more on suitable flea treaments, please visit http://www.fleafree.co.uk/flea_treatment/en/index.shtml

Good luck.

Nearly 25% of pet owners admit getting rid of their animals when they move home, according to new research by a vet product manufacturer.

The work, commissioned by CEVA Animal Health, which makes Feliway and DAP pet calming products, revealed that people resort to giving their pets to family, friends, neighbours and rescue centres when the removal van shows up. Nearly 2% even admitted leaving their cats behind when they moved.

The poll of more than 1,000 pet owners showed that 65% think moving home is equally as stressful or even more stressful for their pets as it is for them. Almost a fifth said that it took their cat over two weeks to adjust to their new home, with many pets becoming confused, nervous or unhappy.

A study by a leading pet food manufacturer has produced firm evidence that pets are good for us.

The breakthrough project, funded by the Mars Corporation and presented to the 12th International Conference on Human-Animal Interactions in Stockholm this month, proved that the same hormone which enables babies to bond with their mothers at birth also accounts for the powerful emotional connections between people and their pets.

Looking in particular at stress reductiion in children the study found that youngsters with a dog for company showed significantly lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol than those with just a friendly adult present.

In addition the more the children stroked and interacted with the dog, the further their levels of cortisol decreased.

Sandra McCune, Mars’s research manager for the study, said: “Pet owners will tell you how much their pet means to them but it is research such as this that proves just how fundamental and important the bond is between people and pets. These studies provide us with a valuable insight into the special bond and the health benefits of owning a pet.”

New discount packages have been announced as the CDPOM World dog day-care and overnight-boarding centre open days approach.

People can book for as little as an hour at a time, but some people want and need to book their pets to be looked after for longer - and recognising this Louise Wilsher has revealed that CDPOM World is offering a range of discounts - from 10% off for those people that book their dog to be cared for daily for a 5-day, working week, through to 20% off for people who need to have their dog cared for every day for a whole month.

“I believe this respresents real value for money, especially when you consider how CDPOM World is such a great alternative to kennels. Instead of just being put in a cage our dogs roam free in a cageless environment with plenty of interaction with other dogs and constant oversight by professional dog carers,” says Louise.
